Africa University has a new Vice Chancellor this year. His official inauguration took place this week following the semi-annual meeting of the AU Board of Directors. Guests came from across Africa and around the world for this event. An impressive inauguration ceremony took place Saturday morning with several United Methodist Bishops from Africa and the USA involved. The keynote speaker was the Vice Chancellor of a leading University in South Africa. Vice-chancellors from other universities in Africa also participated in events during the week, so the inauguration of AU’s Professor Munashe Furusa as Vice Chancellor was graced with leaders from around the world. Everyone spoke very highly of Vice Chancellor Furusa, and the future of Africa University under his leadership.
Sunday morning, the Inaugural Worship service was held in the AU Chapel. The thousand seat chapel was packed full. Everyone enjoyed the singing of several AU choirs. The message for this Inaugural Worship service was given by Bishop J. Nanhala of Mozambique, the only female United Methodist bishop in Africa. She gave a spell-binding message about the leadership of Moses for the Children of Israel in their long sojourn through the wilderness, stating that his effectiveness was due to his looking to God for guidance through every kind of experience. In effect, she blessed our new Vice Chancellor as the Moses for Africa University. Her talk was the culmination of an uplifting inaugural weekend!
