It’s been a remarkable week. An eight-person delegation from Boitekanelo College in Botswana was here for two days to visit our Faculty of Health Sciences. Their college is fairly new (established 2006) and because it is a Health College, they wanted to learn how we manage our courses here. Their second day here coincided with our dedication of the new Ubuntu Conference Center for our campus, and we had many other visitors on campus for this big event. A 38-member team from the W. Michigan Conference of the United Methodist Church was here for the occasion, as well as the Board of Directors for Africa University and the Directors for the General Board of Higher Education and Ministries of the United Methodist Church. The West Michigan Conference had the vision for this Conference Center when some of them visited here four years ago. They raised half a million dollars for this new center, which was matched by an anonymous donor, and the whole project came to completion remarkably quickly.
The Chapel was packed for our Wednesday morning chapel service. The AU Choir, which is always outstanding, outdid themselves in singing for the entire AU community and all the assembled dignitaries and guests. Following chapel, the Dedication Service was held in a large tent pitched by the new Ubuntu Conference Center, and we had a full morning of speeches from various dignitaries, as well as more splendid singing by the AU Choir. It was a grand occasion!
