Great Hot Breakfast on Cold Winter Morning

An icy cold blast from the north swept into Texas last night, and we woke up to a frigid morning. At least it was frigid by Texas standards, with the thermometer hovering around freezing – and it’s going to be like this for a few more days!

Well, we had the solution to get a day like this started – a great hot breakfast. We cooked up pot of steel-cut oats with ground flaxseed and raisins, and had it ready to eat in about fifteen minutes. The picture below shows my full bowl topped with sliced strawberries and blackberries and sprinklings of pomegranate seeds and walnut pieces along with some ground cinnamon. Banana slices are hidden under the oatmeal, giving it an added surprise taste. What a wonderfully tasty way to warm up to the day!
