Carol and I went to the San Antonio Symphony last evening. It was marvelous. The Symphony is having a two-week Tchaikovsky Festival, and last night they played his Second and Fourth Symphonies. The music was wonderful, and the musicians were great. Conductor Sebastian Lang-Lessing was simply superb. It was a joy to watch him conduct the orchestra. His actions varied from cat-like subtlety as he hushed the great orchestra, to dynamic enthusiasm as he literally leaped off his feet in coaxing the utmost from all the musicians in the climactic finale. What a performance, and what an evening!
