The Joys of Walking

I missed walking at home yesterday. so I got on the treadmill when I got to the gym. The treadmill was OK. I walked on it for 32 minutes at a 3.8 miles per hour clip. One advantage of the treadmill is that it keeps you on pace!

This morning there was a hint of coolness when I stepped outside at dawn. It was cloudy, but the fresh breeze on my face felt great. Scattered clusters of wild flowers were pretty – some yellow and some blue. When I walked past a bank of honeysuckles climbing a tall fence, the scent was wonderful. And the singing of the birds was beautiful. How do mockingbirds make such a large variety of sounds? They must have talented throats!. The sights, smells, and sounds on a walk like this almost always make it an experience of joy.

When I got back home, I checked the strawberry patch before going in. I picked a dozen ripe strawberries, and they tasted great on my cereal. It was a good start to the new day.
