Last evening, Carol and I went to the San Antonio Symphony. What an adventure that turned out to be! We headed for the theater about 7 PM, after dinner at Paesano’s Restaurant, and were downtown by 7:15. What we did not know was that it was also Luminaria Arts night in San Antonio. The streets were incredibly congested and the city’s parking garages were all full. It took us over an hour to find a space in a small parking lot six blocks north of downtown. After walking a couple blocks, we were looking at directions when a young man on a bicycle pulling an open mini-two-seater cab stopped and asked if we needed help. Carol was in high heels, and we were happy to jump into his little two-seater. He pulled us through heavy traffic for the next four blocks, and we arrived at the Majestic Theater only a half-hour late. We later learned that there were an estimated 200,000 people in the downtown area that evening for the Luminaria Arts night.
The symphony, with visiting pianist Andrew Armstrong was worth it all. What a magnificent performance! And what an adventure getting there. It was an evening we will not soon forget.
